Smart ways to say “Goodbye” in Romanian

Section 1 – Casual goodbyes

Pa - Bye

“Pa” is the most common way to say goodbye in Romanian. You can say “Pa” to anyone you know, from friends to colleagues.

  • Ne vedem mai târziu. Pa!- See you later. Bye!
  • Da, desigur. Pa!- Yes, of course. Bye!

Ne vedem mai târziu - See you later / Vorbim mai târziu- Talk to you later

You can use them with almost everyone. You say “Ne vedem mai târziu” when you are saying goodbye to someone in person. When you're talking to someone on the phone, you can say “Vorbim mai târziu”

  • Pa! Ne vedem mai târziu- Bye! See you later.
  • Lucrez acum. Vorbim mai târziu- I am working, now. Talk to you later.

Ai grijă! - Take care!

This phrase is still a little bit formal, but not quite formal like “ O zi bună, O zi frumoasă”. Use them when you are not going to see someone again for a few days or a week.

  • “Ne vedem săptămâna viitoare, Amna. Ai grijă!” See you next week, Amna. Take care!
  • “Da, desigur. Mulțumesc” Yes, of course. Thank you.

Section 2 – Formal goodbyes

La revedere - Goodbye

“La revedere” is one of the most formal ways to say goodbye to someone in Romanian. You can use it with people at your job or if you want to show respect to old persons.

  • Mulțumesc pentru proiect- Thank you for the project.
  • Cu plăcere. Ne vedem mâine, Ana. La revedere!- With pleasure. See you tomorrow, Ana. Goodbye

O zi bună - Have a good day

O zi frumoasă”- Have a beautiful day You sound friendly but at the same time also formal when you use these forms. Use them all the time at the end of a conversation.

  • Mulțumesc. O zi bună!- Thank you. Have a good day
  • Ne vedem mâine. O zi frumoasă!- See you tomorrow. Have a beautiful day
